A Robot which can conduct wedding ceremonies



newsstoryoftheday — May 17, 2010 — Robot conducts wedding for Tokyo couple. The robot is located at a restaurant where it conducts wedding ceremonies. It is called the "I-Fairy" and stands about 4 feet tall.

It has flashing eyes to confirm its message to humans during the ceremonies. It wears a wreath of flowers and has a tinny voice and waves its arms as the bride and groom come together in harmony. In case you were wondering, it is a "she" and is bolted to a chair.

It was the first time a marriage had been led by one of these human-like creatures. It was made manufacturer Kokoro Co., a subsidiary of Sanrio Co., and also makes giant dinosaurs for exhibitions and lifelike android models that can smile and laugh. It owns the rights to Hello Kitty and other Japanese characters.
